We are seeking a highly motivated individual to work in a 24/7 unionized, in-process, finished product, and environmental testing laboratory. The 450 acre Hopewell Plant is the world's largest caprolactam plant, producing millions of pounds of finished products per day. Products include the nylon feedstock caprolactam, ammonium sulfate fertilizers, ammonia, cyclohexanone, and specialty chemicals. The plant contains virtually every chemical engineering unit operation and every class and size of operating equipment in the various stages of manufacture. The site is located on the James River near the city of Richmond and is convenient to Virginia and North Carolina beaches, the Blue Ridge Mountains, the Shenandoah Valley and the DC Metro area.
Job Description:
The Analytical Chemist job primarily consists of: (1) Supervising laboratory technicians performing analytical testing, ensuring their compliance with all safety procedures, and validating their results. (2) Providing troubleshooting and maintenance support for all laboratory instrumentation. (3) Providing analytical and technical support for both internal and external customers. (4) Ensuring compliance with our ISO-9001:2008 quality management system and environmental VELAP certification. (5) Developing, validating, and implementing new or improved analysis methods. (6) Implementing the AdvanSix Operating System and safety program.
The successful candidate must be familiar with routine quantitative chemical analysis ? to include instrumental and wet chemistry techniques. Serious candidates will provide supporting evidence of hands on experience with common laboratory equipment and data collection software for chromatographs, spectrophotometers, autotitrators, etc. Competent individuals must be computer literate and demonstrate mastery of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Be available for off-hour support and around the clock coverage whenever necessary.
Provide weekend and holiday on call duty as assigned. (Typically once per month).
Provide joint supervisory oversight for 30 technicians performing chemical tests on process, finished product, and environmental samples.
Review, improve, validate, and implement chemical tests and analyses for Plant samples.
Provide laboratory reports, test results, or SPC/SQC data as required.
Effectively communicate laboratory test results, both verbally and written, to internal and external customers.
Troubleshoot and resolve wet chemistry and instrumentation problems in a timely manner.
Serve on cross-functional teams to improve operations, finished product quality, or environmental compliance.
Assist in the maintenance of our ISO 9001:2008 quality system in the Laboratory and serve as an internal ISO auditor for continuous improvement our plant-wide quality systems.
Provide technical and analytical support and perform special assignments to support the lab, production, engineering, and other laboratory customers.
Observe and enforce plant and laboratory safety rules and regulations at all times.
Assist in training of laboratory personnel.
Assist in laboratory continuous improvement efforts (i.e., process improvement, variation reduction, cycle time reduction, cost reduction).
Perform department maintenance job following duties to include life critical and routine permitted activities.
Continually work to exceed customer expectations through the effective production and delivery of accurate, precise and reliable results.
Perform other duties and assumes other responsibilities as required.
Basic Qualifications:
Minimum of B.S. in Chemistry (M.S. in Chemistry preferred).
5+ years of industrial analytical chemistry experience in organic and/or inorganic analysis.
Demonstrated expertise and skill in chromatography techniques especially, gas, liquid and ionic, with familiarity in operating data acquisition and processing software (preferred).
Experience in the use, maintenance, and troubleshooting of other laboratory instrumentation: spectrophotometers, ICP-OES, autotitrators, refractometers, density analyzers, viscometers, pH meters, conductivity meters, ISEs, TOCs.
Demonstrated experience and skill in wet chemistry analytical techniques: colorimetric, titrimetric, and gravimetric.
Demonstrated experience and skill in data interpretation using SPC/SQC techniques; 6-sigma green belt certification preferred.
Experience with quality management systems: ISO-9001:2008.
Demonstrated experience and skill with operation of an Environmental Laboratory; NELAP certification preferred.
Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise, direct, evaluate, and communicate with unionized workforce.
Demonstrated commitment to safe work practices and participate in and improve the QA Department's safety programs.
Demonstrated ability to work independently, multitask, and prioritize work for self and others.
Demonstrated skills as a good team member - ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment to contribute to multiple, complex, and competing projects.
Must be able to take off-hour calls when required and to provide on-call service for assigned weekends and holidays. (Approximately once per month.)
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with LIMS and SAP is preferred.
Mastery of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) is required. VBA experience is helpful.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
